Hey there,

Quite an easy process.

Press theXbox button to open the guide.
SelectSign in.
Scroll down and select your account to sign in.
After you sign in, press theXbox button to open the guide.
UnderFriends & clubs, selectFind someone.
Search for a gamertag. Be sure to pay close attention to the gamertag's spelling and spacing.
SelectAdd friend to add the person's gamertag to your friends list.
SelectFriend orFavorite to choose what kind of information you share with that person. You can also selectShare my real name to help your friend recognize you.
SelectSubmit.

If you know a friend's gamertag, on Start , swipe over to the All apps list, selectXbox, and then selectFriends & clubs at the top. Type your friend's gamertag in the search box and selectSearch . SelectAdd friend to add them as a friend on Xbox.

You can't have too many friends

We'll also offer a few friend suggestions under the search box. Suggestions can include people you might already know on Xbox, or fellow gamers who make popular clips or broadcasts about games you like. To add a suggested friend to your list, select their gamertag and then selectAdd friend.
